Analytical Scientist in digital pathology and tissue-based artificial intelligence analysis

The Integrated Pathology Unit (IPU, headed by Prof Manuel Salto-Tellez and Dr Katharina von Loga, is a tissue-based laboratory with the mission to develop complex and highly quantitative approaches to tissue analysis (wet lab and in-silico) in the space of translational and clinical research, thus applicable in the context of clinical trials and adoption into diagnostic applications.

We are seeking to recruit 2 Analytical Scientists to provide digital pathology (DP) and tissue-based artificial intelligence (AI) analysis to samples already generated in haematoxilin-eosin, singleplex immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization and complex multiplex experiments, in the context of cancer research, writing novel code when necessary. The postholders will undertake in-silico analysis of tissue-based images derived from the interrogation of clinical materials. The analysis may involve a range of off-the-shelf analytical packages, as well as DP/AI open-source tools. The successful candidates will be able to produce new code to improve the existing tools or, whenever necessary, create new tools under the guidance of academic pathologists. Ideally, the successful candidates would have experience in tissue computational analysis, and in the development of new tools for accurate image analysis and biomarker quantitation.

This is a fixed-term appointment for 36 months.

The salary will be in the range of £32,000- - £44,400 inclusive. Appointments are normally made at the start of the range which represents the market rate for the role but consideration will be given to experience and skills. Future progression is based on annual performance review. The annual leave entitlement is 28 days per annum. There is an additional entitlement to 8 bank/public holidays and 3 ICR-set privilege days.

To apply please submit the online application on the ICR Careers site, attaching your CV with the supporting statement (addressing with specific examples where you meet the person specification, a brief description of your research experience, and incl. the names and addresses of at least two referees).
