    The successful candidate will join a very active inter-disciplinary group in the Centre for Computational Science, and will perform modelling and simulation of the cardiovascular system on the whole human scale.

    The post-holder will work on scientific applications of HemeLB, a flexible open source lattice-Boltzmann code for the simulation of human vasculature, and the Alya Red code for human heart modelling, at the scale of the entire human body. The coupled code, running on powerful supercomputers including those at the emerging exascale, will be used by the post-holder for research in physiology and medicine within the Centre of Excellence in Computational Biomedicine, CompBioMed (https://www.compbiomed.eu/). In addition to the development and application of the code, including parallel in time methods, as well as verification, validation and uncertainty quantification, the post-holder will facilitate uptake of the software within the wider computational science community. The post-holder will also provide input and support for members of CompBioMed across Europe who are seeking to bring their codes to the exascale.

    The post is funded by the European Commission and is available immediately, for a period of 24 months initially.

    Key Requirements
    A Ph.D. degree in physics, computer science, computer engineering, applied mathematics or chemistry, with experience in the lattice-Boltzmann method, is an essential requirement. Experience in large-scale high performance computing is also essential, alongside a proven ability to programme quickly and effectively in state-of-the-art high-performance computing environments; familiarity with GPU programming in such contexts is desirable. Some experience in developing and exploiting state-of-the-art methods in any one or more of multiscale/multiphysics methods, medical imaging, visualisation and computational steering would be advantageous.

    Please note: appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £31,542 - £33,257 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
