We are looking for an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Researcher on the subject of Bioinformatics to work/collaborate for 18 months on the project (with an extension potential of 6 months) "Functionality and Activity of Human Endogenous Retrovirus" (Deadline for applications 20/4/2021).
The successful candidate will join the Department of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Medical Statistics at the NK University of Athens. The Department hosts the National Retrovirus Reference Centre and is actively involved in the Covid-19 response in Greece.
Rationale
The project aims to:
1) map activity of Human Endogenous Retrovirus-K (HERV-K) in the modern human population by analysing data from the 100.000 genomes project,
2) test functionality of HERV-K in cell-line models
Funding: The project was reviewed, shortlisted and selected by the European Research Council in 2018. However as the funds were not sufficient we have received bridge-funding from HFRI-SNF to support the development of the project for a next-round application to the ERC.
