Post-doctoral Training Fellow - Structural biology of alternative splicing

Our division is based at the ICR site from the charming London’s Chelsea district, offering a unique cultural environment and great opportunities for personal and professional development.

Funded by the Wellcome Trust, the post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Prof Vlad Pena. We are looking for a molecular biologist with a keen interest in structural biology.

The goal of the project is to advance understanding the structural basis of how regulatory splicing factors act within spliceosomes to cause alternative splicing. The successful candidate will reconstitute spliceosomes relevant for alternative splicing and determine their structure by cryo-EM. We will provide the support and guidance in the specific methods for assembly, purification and biochemical analyses of spliceosomes.

We provide routine access to state of the art facilities for structural biology, such as recombinant expression, protein purification, large scale mammalian cells cultivation, electron microscopy (Tecnai T12 and F20, Glacios and Titan Krios with state of the art detectors), high-performance GPU computing, mass-spectrometry, preparative and analytical biochemistry.

Applicants should possess a PhD (or equivalent) in molecular biology and have good expertise in the biochemistry of macromolecular complexes. Experience in RNA biology and structural biology (cryo-EM or crystallography) would be an advantage, although it is not mandatory.

The appointment will be on Fixed Term Contract for 3 years in the first instance, with a starting salary of £38,607 p.a. inclusive (£32,844 for pre-viva applicants until they are rewarded PhD). Informal enquiries are welcome and can be made to Prof Vlad Pena ([email protected]). Please note, this address is for enquiries only and you should not send your application to this email address.

To apply please submit online application on the ICR Careers site, attaching your CV with the supporting statement (addressing with specific examples where you meet the person specification, a brief description of your research experience and incl. the names and addresses of at least two referees). Job ref 1242

After receiving the application, we will contact the suitable candidates as soon as possible.
