CoCID is an EU H2020 funded project that will use highly novel soft x-ray microscopy and complementary imaging techniques (confocal, electron microscopy) to accelerate our understanding of viral disease mechanisms and associated development of novel therapeutics at the single cell level. The major innovation of this project will use a lab-scale soft x-ray prototype, as previously this imaging technique was only available at synchrotron facilities which limited its accessibility. The project will focus on hepatitis E virus, a zoonotic hepatitis virus that is of increasing importance as a cause of acute hepatitis in developed countries, and is primarily transmitted to humans through the consumption of pork and close contact with pigs. This project will use novel models of pig and human liver to understand the interactions of the virus with target cells, investigate structural changes associated with viral infection and evaluate novel antivirals.
This post is for an enthusiastic scientist with an interest in virology and virus-host interactions. You will join an interdisciplinary team consisting of veterinary practitioners, medical doctors and virologists, and combine exciting research of high academic standard with the application of research findings in the field.
