This is a post to work on the measurement of novel superfluid optomechanical devices at low temperature. The post involves the development of experimental tools to build quantum analog systems of black holes to mimic the dynamics of fields in time-dependent spacetimes to study some of the most ill-understood processes in our Universe. The post holder will work in a newly formed interdisciplinary consortium uniting the quantum technology and fundamental physics communities, called Quantum Simulator for Fundamental Physics (http://qsimfp.org/). The consortium is an interactive network of scientists from seven UK-based research organisations located in St. Andrews, Cambridge, King's College London, Newcastle, Nottingham, University College London and Royal Holloway University of London.

The holder of this post will be expected to help produce independent and original research within the RHUL London Low Temperature Laboratory, to submit publications to refereed journals, and to work together with and supervise postgraduate and MSci students. In return we offer a highly competitive rewards and benefits package including generous annual leave and training and development opportunities.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics or a closely related area, as well as prior experience relevant to one or more of the following: (i) development of low temperature measurement techniques; (ii) operating cryogenic systems at low temperatures; (iii) cleanroom/sample preparation; (iv) operating radio-frequency measurement systems; or, (iv) data analysis.

This is a full time post, available from 1 April 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter for a fixed term period of 24 months at Royal Holloway, University of London, with the possibility of extension.

In return we offer a highly competitive rewards and benefits package including:
