The Department of Molecular Medicine at the University of Tübingen offers positions for a Junior Group Leader and a Postdoc in the fields of immunology and tumor biology. The Postdoc position is initially available for up to 3 years, but extension is possible upon successful performance. The position for the Junior Research Group Leader will be available for up to 7 years (depending on co-funding; e.g. ERC or Emmy Noether grants). Salaries will be commensurate with qualification and experience according to the collective wage agreement for the Public Service in Germany (TVL E13 to E15).

    Qualification profile:
We are looking for enthusiastic scientists with a strong background in molecular and cell biology, tumor biology, immunology or experience with genetically engineered mouse models. Ideally, the candidates will strengthen our research in the areas of transcriptional regulation and epigenetics, but other research fields in basic or translational research will also be considered.

The Postdoc scientist is expected to work on novel transcription regulators in inflammation and tumor development [see e.g. Müller A et al., J Clin Invest. 130:5765(2020); Grondona et al., J Invest Dermatol. 140:1805 (2020); Bucher et al., BLOOD 135:121 (2020); Müller A et al., Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 115:10088 (2018)]. Experimental approaches comprise molecular biology and epigenetic analyses (qPCR, CRISPR/Cas, shRNA knockdown, mutagenesis, ChIP, RNAseq), protein biochemistry, proteomics, metabolomics, drug screening, flow cytometry, histochemistry, bioinformatics and analysis of transgenic mouse models. The junior group leader may work on similar topics, but can also follow independent projects related to the major research focus of the department.

The Department of Molecular Medicine is located at Tübingen’s Interfaculty Institute of Biochemistry and belongs to both, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science. We provide an international, well-equipped and stimulating surrounding with multiple interactions to both faculties. The department is affiliated to the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK), the new National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) and the Comprehensive Cancer Center Tübingen-Stuttgart. It is embedded in several (inter)national research networks, including the Cluster of Excellence EXS 2180 (iFIT: Image-Guided and Functionally Instructed Tumor Therapies), the SFB/TRR 156 (Skin Immunology) and the SFB/TRR 209 (Liver Cancer).

Tübingen is a beautiful medieval city in Southwest Germany. The University of Tübingen is one of Germany's federally designated Elite Universities with a strong focus on translational immunology and cancer research. The department has recently moved to a brand-new building, hosting several research groups in the field of biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology and structural biology. Ample laboratory space with an attractive start-up package, cutting-edge scientific infrastructure, and a substantial financial base will be secured.

Please send your electronic application as a single Pdf file or also informal requests to: Prof. Klaus Schulze-Osthoff, Department of Molecular Medicine, Medical Faculty, University of Tuebingen, Germany. Email: [email protected]

The deadline for application is February 7, 2021, but early applications are strongly encouraged. Please indicate whether you apply for the postdoc or junior group leader position. Disabled candidates will be given preference over other equally qualified applicants. The University seeks to raise the number of women in research and teaching and therefore urges qualified women to apply.
