    The Institute of Biomaterial Science in Teltow of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht invites applications for a Research Scientist (m/f/d) Medical Device Pilot Production with a focus on planning, performing and supervising the production of polymer-based medical device candidates in late-stage translational research at the interface to transfer into industry. This is initially a 2-year fixed-term contract with the potential of continuation depending on applicant’s performance. The place of employment is Teltow (near Berlin, Germany).

    Your tasks
    Supported by a team of well-trained technicians, you will have the opportunity to drive the far progressed translational research on class 3 medical device candidates towards their application “first-in-human” in clinical studies. You will plan the fabrication (chemical synthesis, shaping, and packaging) in clean rooms and characterization steps as needed for the product candidates, will check the production documentation and approve products according to product specifications as implantable devices. You will review and update working instructions as part of your activities to ensure product quality through our quality and risk management systems. You will thoroughly analyze events, file scientific reports based on literature studies and experimental work, actively participate in the preparation of patents or publications, and will be strongly involved in the transfer of the respective technology into industry for clinical studies and access to the market.

    Your profile
    You have a PhD in chemistry, engineering (biomedical or pharmaceutical), or similar subjects, substantial experience in synthesis and processing of polymer-based materials, and a strong attitude towards transfer of knowledge and technologies into practical use. Based on your detailed understanding of regulatory requirements for medical devices and quality management as well as on exceptional organizational and communication skills, you will show leadership for the technical team and will handle all matters with a high level of responsibility. You are flexible, reliable, resilient, and communicate professionally and fluently in English and/or German with the attitude to learn the other. You have an interest in start-up companies or other paths to industrial use of innovative technologies.
