The Department of Electronic Engineering at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (USM), in Valparaíso, Chile, is offering a postdoctoral research position in the field of distributed optical fibre sensing and machine learning. USM is one of the most prestigious universities in Chile and Latin America, being ranked #1 in Latin America in Electronic & Electrical Engineering and in Automation & Control, according to the ARWU Shanghai Ranking by Subject 2019.
The research group in optical fibre sensing has active research activities in several academic and industrial projects -many with vast international collaborations- related to different fibre sensing technologies. The selected candidate will join a multidisciplinary research team composed of academic and industrial partners in the framework of an R&D FONDEF-ANID project focused on fibre-optic distributed acoustic sensing for earthquake monitoring using machine learning techniques.
Requirements
1. Doctorate degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Photonics Engineering, or related fields; obtained no earlier than January 2015.
2. In-depth knowledge in at least one of the following fields: digital signal processing, machine learning, optoelectronics, and fibre optics. Willingness to learn about all these subjects.
3. Hand-on lab experience in data acquisition, signal processing, and/or optical fibre systems.
4. Good written and spoken English knowledge.
5. Team-oriented, independent work style.
6. Available from early 2021. Flexibility for foreign nationals who require to apply for work visa.
