Post-doctoral Training Fellow - RNA biology

Our division is based at the ICR site from the charming London’s Chelsea district, offering a unique cultural environment and great opportunities for personal and professional development.

Funded by the Wellcome Trust, the post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Prof Vlad Pena. We are looking for a highly motivated and creative molecular biologist with a strong background in RNA biochemistry and cell biology, who wishes to expand his/her expertise in structural biology. The goal of the project is to understand how regulatory splicing factors act within spliceosomes to determine decisions in alternative splicing.

The successful candidate will reconstitute complexes relevant for splicing regulation and characterize their structure by single particle cryo-EM. The structures will be complemented with various functional assays, in vitro and in vivo.

Our lab is fully equipped for RNA and protein biochemistry, large scale mammalian cells cultivation, recombinant protein expression in baculovirus and bacteria. For structural studies, we provide routine access to facilities for electron microscopy (Tecnai T12 and F20, Glacios and Titan Krios with state of the art detectors), high performance GPU computing, mass-spectrometry, fluorescence microscopy and isolab.

Applicants should possess a PhD (or equivalent) in molecular biology or biochemistry, and have a strong expertise in RNA biology. Experience in methods of structural biology would be an advantage, although it is not mandatory.

Appointment will be on Fixed Term Contract for 3 years in the first instance, with a starting salary of £32,844 -£40,137 p.a. inclusive dependent on previous relevant postdoctoral experience. Future progression is based on annual performance review. Informal enquiries are welcome and can be made to Vlad Pena ([email protected]). Please note, this address is for enquiries only and you should not send your application to this email address.

To apply please submit online application on the ICR Careers site, attaching your CV with the supporting statement (addressing with specific examples where you meet the person specification, a brief description of your research experience and incl. the names and addresses of at least two referees).

For more details, please refer to the job description and person specification on our site, job ref 1139
