Postdoctoral Scientist - Structural Studies - Dr Andrew Carter - LMB 1323

    Postdoctoral Scientist / CDF
    Starting Salary £31,602 - £34,443 per annum
    3 years Fixed Term
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK

An opportunity is available at the MRC, Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) for a postdoctoral researcher to work with Dr Carter to reconstitute microtubule transport of cargos from recombinant components. The project aims to investigate the role of potential adaptor proteins in linking the dynein/dynactin motor to membrane organelles.

I am looking for an enthusiastic individual who will thrive in a laboratory with a friendly and supportive atmosphere. In addition to using biochemical approaches, this project will provide opportunity to perform structural studies using cryo-electron microscopy and/or tomography. You should have a PhD in a relevant subject or be due to complete a PhD within 6 months and a strong desire to understand how dynein interacts with its cargos.

The position would suit someone with a background in biochemistry and protein purification from insect or mammalian cells. Experience with single molecule approaches, X-ray crystallography or cryoEM/cryoET would be an advantage but is not essential as Dr Carter’s group can train you in these methods.

The successful applicant will be awarded a three-year Postdoctoral Scientist/Career Development Fellowship. This is a training and development position for a post-doctoral scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, is moving into a new research discipline or has limited experience of key transferable skills.

Informal enquires can be made to [email protected]
