This is a post in the Computational Cancer Biology group at the Cancer Institute in UCL. The UCL Cancer Institute is the hub for cancer research at University College London and draws together over 400 talented scientists who are working together to study cancer and translate research discoveries into developing better, more effective treatments to improve outcomes for cancer patients.
We are seeking two highly motivated and qualified Research Fellows to join the Fisher laboratory which investigates the evolutionary dynamics of cancer using computational modelling. The Fisher laboratory is dedicated to understanding how cancers evolve through the identification of the molecular mechanisms that underpin cell-fate decision programs during both normal development and disease. Our mission is to develop better personalised treatment to improve the outcome for cancer patients.
The post holders will be expected to make significant contributions to the development of computational models for the cancers being studied in the Fisher lab (e.g., breast cancer, lung cancer, glioblastoma, melanoma). This will involve data discovery, data analysis, computational modelling and experimental validation in partnership with our experimental collaborators.
This post is funded for 3 years in the first instance.
Applicants must have, or be studying towards a PhD in a relevant subject and have a first or upper second BSc in a relevant subject with substantial experience in computational work.
Experience in formal verification methods, logical modelling and statistical analysis is essential.
Applicants must have experience in presenting complex scientific concepts and content, and have excellent programming skills in Python, MATLAB and R.
They will show a strong commitment to the Fisher lab mission and embody its values through excellent collaborative interpersonal skills, strong communication skills and the ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting.
Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £31,479 - £33,194 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
In addition to the above criteria for Appointment at Grade 8 candidates must have a PhD and significant previous post doctoral experience prior to the appointment.
