Two-year postdoc in Non-Equilibrium Statistical Physics

Applications are invited for a postdoc position at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of Göttingen, in the group of Prof. Peter Sollich. The interests of the group focus on the theoretical modelling of non-equilibrium dynamics, including aging, soft and active matter rheology, phase separation processes, dynamics on networks and development of statistical physics-inspired machine learning methods for non-equilibrium data.

The position will be for a fixed term of two years, with a flexible starting date from August 2020. Salary will be on the German public sector scale TV-L E13. Candidates should have a PhD in physics, theoretical physics or a related area, with significant expertise in non-equilibrium statistical physics and a strong publications record; experience with numerical work and interest in interdisciplinary work will be useful. Fluency in written and spoken English is a requirement. German language skills are not essential as English is the default language for scientific interactions (seminars, group meetings etc).

The Faculty of Physics is embedded into the Göttingen Campus, which provides an ideal environment for interdisciplinary collaboration, both with other University faculties (e.g. chemistry and mathematics) and with Max-Planck-Institutes, particularly the MPI for Dynamics and Self-Organization. Formal collaborative research centres support these interactions. For computational work, the Faculty has access to dedicated High Performance Computing facilities.

Candidates should email the following documents (PDF preferred)
    1) A cover letter summarizing your background and explaining your interest in, and suitability for, the position
    2) A full CV including an overview of scientific work so far, publication list and names of two referees
    3) Electronic copies of your two most relevant publications
to [email protected]. Informal enquiries about the positions can be sent to the same email address.

All applications received by 27 April 2020 will be given full consideration. Later applications will be considered as long as the position remains unfilled.

The University of Göttingen is an equal opportunities employer with a particular emphasis on fostering career opportunities for women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply. Disabled applicants with equivalent qualifications will be given preference. The formal advert text can be found at http://www.uni-goettingen.de/de/305402.html?cid=14920
