The Centre for Eye Research Ireland (
www.ceri.ie) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral statistician/data scientist to advance our data analytics research and development projects and ambitions. Our data analytics programme currently involves the use of eye health data resources acquired from electronic medical records, industrial manufacturing and sales data. Our novel ophthalmic data is particularly powerful given its population representativeness for people over the age of 45 and can be used for population health planning purposes and for the development of pioneering solutions to healthcare delivery challenges. Our programme of work involves both an academic (creating new knowledge to advance the field) and an industrial/commercial (application of data and associated IP for commercial use) focus. As such, this role will be particularly attractive to candidates who are interested in the practical application of research within industry.
The successful candidate will have exciting opportunities to work closely with both academic and industry partners to solve real world problems with innovative technology solutions. The individual appointed will be assigned to projects undertaken by the centre but will have the opportunity to drive their own research and career ambitions and will have the opportunity to develop their academic and industrial engagement skills through a detailed postdoctoral training and mentoring programme.
A key attraction to this post will be the opportunity for self-directed professional development which will prepare the individual appointed for academic, industry or entrepreneurial career advancement as prioritised by the individual.
A customised personal development plan will be designed to support the successful candidates priorities. The opportunities will include general academic skills such as pedagogical practice, PhD supervision, scientific writing and communication skills, entrepreneurship, intellectual property management and career planning. Additional training will be made available including:
• Developing and Consolidating Your Research Career
• Funding Your Research
• Managing a Research Team
• Research Collaboration
• Communicating Your Research
