Pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and medical device clinical trials for myopia, glaucoma and cognition



    The project will involve delivery of clinical trials exploring the efficacy, safety and mechanisms of action of contact lenses and low dose atropine for myopia control. The primary role will involve supporting the delivery of all aspects of our suite of clinical trials. The successful candidate will also be supported to seek and secure funding for follow on stages of our myopia work including future phases of the clinical trials and/or to secure funding for additional research priorities in line with their expertise and interests. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their academic skills through a detailed postdoctoral training and mentoring programme, including opportunities for PhD student supervision, data analysis and scientific writing in a lead and co-author role. Additional training will be provided in Good Clinical Practice and Good Clinical Practice In Medical Device research, ethics committee and regulatory body submissions.

    The successful candidate will have exciting opportunities to work closely with both academic and industry partners to solve real world problems with innovative technology solutions. The individual appointed will be assigned to projects undertaken by the centre but will have the opportunity to drive their own research and career ambitions and will have the opportunity to develop their academic and industrial engagement skills through a detailed postdoctoral training and mentoring programme.

    Student requirements for this project
    This scholarship is open to applicants who meet the essential requirements listed below and who have already completed the full requirements for a PhD or will complete fully before April 1, 2020 and will graduate fully in 2020.

    Essential
    Degree in Optometry, Orthoptics, Medicine or related ophthalmic/healthcare discipline.
    PhD in the area of visual development, vision science, ocular disease, myopia control

    Desirable
    Experience in publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals that highlight findings from previous research.
    Previous experience in coding, evaluating and interpreting study data required.

    Experienced in ocular examination techniques
