Post-doctoral position available in the group of Prof. Livio Gianfrani, Molecules and Precision Measurements – MPM Laboratory
Department of Mathematics and Physics in Caserta near Naples (Italy)

Tabletop-scale experiments on atomic/molecular systems, based upon precision measurement techniques, are being performed in the Molecules and Precision Measurements (MPM) Laboratory, using state-of-the-art lasers and photonics tools.
Current molecules of interest are: H2 (and its isotopologues), CO2, H2O, C2H2, N2O each of them addressing a specific scientific issue. In any case, the MPM Laboratory pursues high precision and high accuracy by using comb-calibrated cavity-enhanced laser spectroscopy techniques.
    Several projects are possible, including:
    i. Experimental test of QED corrections in chemically-bound systems (like H2, D2, HD), by means of precision measurements of line center frequencies in the near-infrared (with sub-kHz accuracy).
ii. Frequency-stabilized cavity ring-down spectroscopy for line intensity measurements (with a relative accuracy better than 0.1 %).
iii. Frequency metrology and precision spectroscopy in the deep-ultraviolet.

The selected candidate will join a young and highly motivated research team in on-going activities. The ideal candidate should have a PhD or doctoral degree in experimental physics, with a good attitude towards the laboratory work. He/she should be capable of working independently, even being part of an international research team. He/she should be fluent in spoken and written English.
