    College of Engineering
    University of Canterbury
    Christchurch, New Zealand
    • Full-time at 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE)
    • 2 Year fixed term opportunity

    What You Will Do
We have an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral fellow to undertake research in the field of transportation engineering. You will have the opportunity to drive research in a broad range of areas, contributing to the on-going research in the pavement design, numerical modelling and material characterisations.
While the primary focus of this position is on research, you will also contribute to teaching of Transportation Engineering courses that support the Master of Civil Engineering.

    Who You Are
You will have a PhD in Civil Engineering, ideally with a specialisation in Pavement design and materials or a related discipline, as well as advanced research background in bituminous material characterisation and numerical modelling. You will have significant experience with laboratory preparations, testing and instrumentations of asphalt mixes, bitumen and polymer modified rheology with full understandings of the standard tests protocols. You will have a strong background in fracture mechanics, constitutive models, viscoelastic behaviour of asphalt mixes with experience in finite element (FEM), discrete element modelling (DEM) or Smoothed-particle hydrodynamics, SPH. It is also important to have significant experience with software packages such as ABAQUS, PFC3D and have an ability to write and develop user defined material subroutines to be used with Abaqus or other packages for numerical simulations. Additionally, you will have a strong background in statistical analysis as well as an ability to use Matlab and other programming languages such as C++ and visual basic.

You will have demonstrated experience of excellent research capabilities (design and leadership) required to carry out innovative and insightful research and a publication track record as well as experience with preparation and delivery of quality oral presentations.
