Science Manager – Animal Welfare

This role is to support our animal welfare programmes and peer review and advice service. You will facilitate the dissemination and uptake of approaches which improve animal welfare by organising workshops and symposia, developing content for the NC3Rs website, and writing articles for our dedicated newsletter for animal technicians. You will also support the development and refresh of online resources designed to assist researchers and technicians to refine laboratory animal housing, husbandry and procedures.
The role involves supporting expert working groups convened to identify refinements and generate an evidence base for changes in practice to improve animal welfare. Also you will support the review of research proposals under the NC3Rs peer review service, helping to identify opportunities to apply the 3Rs and providing advice to applicants and grants panels.
You will need:
• PhD in a biological science, ideally with in vivo experience
• Excellent understanding of the use of animals in research and a demonstrable commitment to the 3Rs.
• Experience of organising scientific events and writing a variety of content for scientific audiences.
