Postdoctoral positions at the University of Gothenburg in the areas of microbiology / molecular biology / analytical chemistry

Do you want to work on research projects within the framework of sustainability and develop new innovative processes to solve industrial problems? Do you have good laboratory skills and would enjoy leading applied research projects in industrial biotechnology?

Two postdoctoral positions are available at the University of Gothenburg, both in the areas of microbiology / molecular biology / analytical chemistry.

The first position is part of a project examining the role of microbial populations in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), anaerobic digesters and in hydroponics (HP) units with the goal of better understanding conditions that will maximise the beneficial transfers of microbes and their products between components of a decoupled aquaponics systems. The second position will involve work on bacterial relationships related to biofloc, biofilms and pathogens within Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS). The candidate will be responsible for cultivation in bioreactor systems of specific novel microbial assemblages that contribute to enhanced growth and well-being of live fish feed (rotifers, brine shrimp) widely used in aquaculture and ultimately the fish larvae feeding on them.
The positions are research-focused, but also require strong leadership and interpersonal skills; candidates must be comfortable interacting with a range of interdisciplinary researchers and leading new strategic research directions. Successful candidates will therefore be dynamic, highly motivated individuals who will be able to lead research on larger international projects involving several European laboratories, as well as industry partners and research collaborators internationally.
The positions are 100% time for initial 2-year contracts. The positions require excellent English proficiency but do not require EU or Swedish residency, and are open to all international applicants.

Candidates must be willing to travel internationally, frequently and for extended periods (primarily North America, Europe, Australia and Asia). As the projects involve considerable travel, candidates without prior international living experience will not be considered. Start date is approximately May 1st, 2020 (flexible). Excellent benefits including health coverage, paid vacation and travel. Please find more details about the positions at:
