Senior Scientific Officer - Proteomics Core

The Institute of Cancer Research, London, is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes, with an outstanding record of achievement dating back more than 100 years. We provided the first convincing evidence that DNA damage is the basic cause of cancer, laying the foundation for the now universally accepted idea that cancer is a genetic disease. Today, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) leads the world at isolating cancer-related genes and discovering new targeted drugs for personalised cancer treatment.

Under the leadership of our Chief Executive, Professor Paul Workman FRS, the ICR is ranked as the UK’s leading academic research centre. Together with our partner The Royal Marsden, we are rated in the top five cancer centres globally.

The ICR is committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world to join us in our mission – to make the discoveries that defeat cancer.

The Proteomics team explores the molecular phenotype of cancer studying protein-protein interactions, signalling, post-translational modifications and protein expression.
The team’s research focuses on the development and implementation of novel mass spectrometry and data analysis approaches for proteome discovery.

The objective of this post is to provide high quality contribution in developing and applying cutting edge mass spectrometry-based proteomics.
The post holder will work as a member of the proteomics team and will undertake end-to-end analysis of a variety of biological samples.

This role will require establishment and use of streamlined pipelines for quantitative analysis of diverse protein attributes encompassing experimental and computational data analysis approaches. Bespoke method optimization and development will be required according the needs of individual projects. The successful candidate should be able to guide the ICR users with the experimental design of proteomics experiments to ensure statistical robustness of the results, they will communicate the results and details of quantitative data and the technology used.

The post holder will be required to represent the group in local or international meetings and conferences with oral or poster presentations. Training and supervision of new starters and collaborators to analysis pipelines is also among the most important duties of the post holders.

A strong candidate would be able to design, develop and publish methods addressing current needs in proteomics, contributing to the facility and ensuring it remains up to date and operating at world class standards.
