Postdoctoral Training Fellow in Cancer Biology

Funded by a 6-year Programme Foundation Award from Cancer Research UK, a post-doctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Alessandro Vannini, Division of Structural Biology at The Institute of Cancer Research in London. Working, in collaboration with Dr. Barrie Peck, Centre for Tumour Biology at the Barts Cancer Institute in London, we are looking for highly motivated and creative individuals with a strong interest in cancer biology, particularly functional genomics. We currently employ molecular and cell biology approaches in vitro and in vivo, to elucidate the role of the RNA Polymerase III transcription apparatus in cancer.

This is an ideal opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic scientist to join an established and dynamic research team with excellent collaborators and facilities. The Postdoctoral Researcher will work independently and take intellectual ownership of the project, while also working collaboratively with a higher scientific officer in order to deliver the research plan aimed at uncovering the role of RNA Polymerase III in cancer at the cellular and molecular level and exploit its therapeutic potential (see for example “Gouge et al., Cell 2015”).

Applicants should possess a PhD (or equivalent) in cell biology or related disciplines and should be familiar with multiple of the following techniques: functional genomics via next generation sequencing, genome editing with CRISPR, 3D cell culture, tissue culture/engineering and functional assays (such as FACS, growth and imaging assays).

Appointment will be on Fixed Term Contract until 30 June 2022 in the first instance, with a starting salary in the range of £32,200* to £39,350 p.a. inclusive (based on previous post-doctoral experience, *£32,200 starting salary is for pre-viva candidates).

Informal enquiries are welcome and can be made to Dr. Alessandro Vannini ([email protected]). Please note, this address is for enquiries only and you should not send your application to this email address.

Application form, CV and supporting statement must be submitted online, job ref.948
