We are announcing a 6-year postdoc position within the Division of Molecular Materials Chemistry (MMC) in the Institute of Materials Chemistry at the Technical University of Vienna (TU Vienna).

The offered position is equivalent to a full-time university assistant (40 hours per week) with a minimum monthly salary of € 3.803,90 pre-tax, 14 times per year. We expect to fill the position starting around March 2020.
    Who we are:
The MMC division is dedicated to fundamental and applied research. Our interests involve the synthesis of nanocarbons, functional inorganics and hybrid nanostructures to unravel reaction kinetics/mechanisms and charge transfer dynamics at surfaces and interfaces and to advance their performance in medicinal, environmental and energy applications (e.g. photocatalysis, photovoltaics, biosensors).

We are a young and international team that enjoys close collaborations with world-leading research groups in the respected fields. The TU Vienna provides an excellent research environment with well-equipped state-of-the-art research centers (e.g. XRD facility, USTEM, Center for Surface Analytics, Computational Materials Science etc.). The TU Vienna also offers highly attractive training opportunities for personal and scientific development.

    Whom we want:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative, highly motivated, experienced researcher, who has successfully developed an independent research profile in materials design (e.g. 1D/2D nanomaterials, MOFs, molecular metal oxides, perovskites etc), fundamental studies (e.g. time-resolved spectroscopy, computational simulations, electrochemical methods) or in applied science (e.g. artificial photosynthesis, photonics/optoelectronics, (electro)catalysis) to complement our research.
In particular, we are searching for researchers with expertise in in-situ techniques for mechanistic studies in (photo)catalysis and/or with atomic layer deposition (ALD). A strong contribution to the materials researched in the group (MXenes, TMCs, MOFs, POMs, nanocarbons) is desired.

    What is required:
A PhD or an equivalent degree in chemistry or chemical engineering or equivalent is mandatory. Experience with grant application writing, paper writing, supervision of student projects and teaching (e.g. lab classes and chemistry lectures) is highly desired. Experience with project organization and management is beneficial. Competence in career advancement of young scientists and women and in gender mainstreaming is desirable.

The candidate needs to be fluent in English (oral and written). In addition, if not already fluent in German, the candidate is expected to obtain actual German language proficiency required for teaching of bachelor courses and participation in university board and committee meetings within a short period of time.

TU Wien is an equal opportunity employer aiming to increase the proportion of women within scientific and artistic staff and thus strongly encourages qualified women to apply. Female applicants will be considered preferentially, if their abilities, aptitude and professional performance are equal with those of male applicants. Persons with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.

To apply, please forward the following documents (single pdf-file) to [email protected] until 19th of January 2020:

    • Your curriculum vitae
    • A cover letter, in which you reason your motivation to become a part of our group.
    • A short proposal (5 pages), in which you summarize your past research achievements and detail your future research plans within our division.
    • Abstract/summary of PhD thesis
    • Certificates for Master/Diploma and PhD/Doctor degrees
    • 2 letters of recommendation
