Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Computer Vision and Machine Learning)

Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences create a unique environment for multidisciplinary, inspirational and high-impact research and education. Our universities community has its competitive edges in technology, health and society. www.tuni.fi/en

We are seeking a Posdoctoral Researh Fellow to our computer vision and machine learning research. We offer a fixed-term position ranging from 1 to 4 years on levels of:

    Postdoctoral researcher

The position will offer excellent opportunities to work in a team of professionals responsible for developing cutting edge computer vision and machine learning technology, and allows you to learn many aspects from fundamental research problems to concrete applications.

The research work at Tampere University will be supervised by the Assistant Professor Esa Rahtu and it is part of a larger consortium including Assistant Professor Juho Kannala (Aalto University) and Associate Professor Jani Boutellier (University of Vaasa). We work broadly in the fields of computer vision and machine learning. We are pursuing research problems in semantic computer vision (such as video understanding, audiovisual perception, semantic segmentation, and image based localization), in geometric computer vision (such as visual SLAM, visual-inertial odometry, and 3D scene reconstruction), in robot vision (such as human robot interaction and reinforcement learning), and in augmented reality for games and mobile applications (Android and/or iOS).

Some of our previous works are illustrated in the following project pages. You can find more information from our personal web pages.

    ICface (Tripahty, Kannala, Rahtu)
    StyleTransfer (Tripahty, Kannala, Rahtu)
    ADVIO (Cortes, Solin, Rahtu, Kannala)
    GP-MVS (Hou, Kannala, Solin)
DGC-NET (Melekhov, Tiulpin, Sattler, Pollefeys, Rahtu, Kannala)
    PioneerNet (Heljakka, Solin, Kannala)
    PIVO (Solin, Cortes, Rahtu, Kannala)

    REQUIREMENTS

We welcome applications with any research focus related to computer vision and machine learning. In addition, we are especially seeking candidates with the following research interest:

Data-driven 3D visual computing and image based localization

    Video understanding and audiovisual perception

Unsupervised or self-supervised learning for large scale image and video recognition

    Zero-shot and few-shot learning

    Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM)

    Robot vision and reinforcement learning

Machine and deep learning for robotics

    Perception for autonomous systems

Augmented reality for games and mobile applications (Android and/or iOS)

Ideal candidate has a strong programming and mathematics background. Experience in (or strong will to learn) programming with Python or C++/Java are considered as advantages. Previous experience on Android/iOS programming is also beneficial, particularly for the augmented reality topics.
