The research team of Prof. Stephen Dooley at the School of Physics, Trinity College Dublin seeks a motivated researcher who wishes to work to solve global dependence on fossil energy.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team of physicist, chemists, engineers and commercialisation agents active in many international collaborations. The postdoctor will contribute to a variety of projects distributed across the team’s activities in; Fuels, Combustion, Chemical Physics Modelling, Reaction Kinetics, Catalysis, Electrocatalysis, Sustainability Assessment, Intellectual Property Protections and Commercialisation. Recent summaries of our interests are available at: Google Scholar Scopus (16416838400).

    Current projects include:

    (i) Development of spectroscopic techniques to quantitatively analyse complex hydrocarbon
    mixtures.
(ii) Chemical physics modelling of reacting flows involved in biomass upgrading, biofuel synthesis,
fuel combustion and carbon dioxide reduction.
(iii) Commercialisation of a protected biomass-to-advanced-biofuels technology.
(iv) Design and synthesis of novel fuel additives to improve engine efficiency and compatibility with renewable fuels.
    (v) Life cycle greenhouse gas and technic-economic analysis of “sustainable” aviation fuel
    production technologies.

A researcher with principal skills and experience in chemical physics/physical chemistry, synthetic chemistry, chemical engineering, numerical modelling or density functional theory will contribute well to our team. S/he is expected to; lead the execution of at least one project while contributing to others, including reporting in international peer reviewed journals and dissemination at international scientific conferences, and also to lead engagement with external collaborators and industry. A formal background in the physical sciences, holding a
Ph.D. degree in a chemical/physics/engineering discipline would be most appropriate, but other equivalent qualifications may also be accepted.

Prospective candidates should send a detailed CV, a covering letter outlining their educational background and research track record, and the names and contact details of two referees to Prof. Stephen Dooley ([email protected]).

Please quote the entire job title in the subject line of your email. The position is available immediately for at least 12 months and can be extended subject to sufficient progress. Applications will be evaluated as received and candidates of all levels of experience possessing appropriate skillsets will be considered.

The School of Physics, Trinity College Dublin has been awarded Institute of Physics Juno Practitioner and Athena SWAN Bronze Award status for taking action to address gender inequities across its student and staff body.
