Postdoctoral Training Fellow - Sarcoma Molecular Pathology

Applications are invited from highly motivated candidates to join the successful Sarcoma Molecular Team led by Professor Janet Shipley

The successful candidate will join the Sarcoma Molecular Pathology team funded by a Private External Funder. Rhabdomyosarcomas are a major cause of death from cancer in young people and novel ways to treat disease that emerges as resistant to current treatments is a key objective. Based on heterogeneity observed in rhabdomyosarcoma, this project aims to develop and characterise models of resistant disease for rhabdomyosarcoma. The molecular characteristics of resistant rhabdomyosarcoma models will also be assessed for their similarities to patient material and used to identify strategies that can be tested as potential treatments for rhabdomyosarcoma. This research is highly complementary to other research currently in progress in the lab.

The contract is initially for one year but is expected to be renewed for up to 3 years.

The results of this project are expected to be published in high-profile journals and will be communicated to clinicians in the Paediatrics and Young People’s Unit of the Royal Marsden NHSTrust, the European Paediatric Soft Tissue Sarcoma Study Group and the ITCC consortium that may lead to improving outcomes for patients.

The successful applicant will have PhD and relevant laboratory experience.
