William Harvey Research Institute
Post-Doctoral Research Assistant
(Ref: QMUL 20214)
Fixed Term Contract up to 3 years
The Centre for Microvascular Research is an internationally recognised group headed by Professor Sussan Nourshargh, investigating molecular interactions that mediate and regulate inflammatory and vascular events within the microcirculation. The Centre has established expertise in the endothelial cell research using a multidisciplinary approach but with significant emphasis on the application of cutting edge imaging modalities. It offers newly refurbished laboratories, excellent facilities and is located in the heart of City of London.
Applications are invited for a BHF funded 3 year Postdoctoral Research Associate position in a group led by Dr. Tom Nightingale working on the intracellular trafficking of endothelial storage organelles (Weibel Palade Bodies). These traffic key haemostatic proteins and pro-inflammatory adhesion molecules to sites of blood vessel injury or inflammation. The goal will be to characterize the role of novel actin dependent machinery in the regulation of this event. The candidate will use cutting edge imaging approaches including confocal and super resolution microscopy as well as biochemical assays. Close collaboration will occur with the other existing groups in the Centre for Microvascular Research. Candidates should be highly motivated and have a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular/Cellular Biology or a related area. Experience in molecular biology, and biochemistry is essential; experience in intracellular trafficking and imaging is preferable.
The post is full-time and fixed term for 3 years. Starting salary will be in the range of £34,220 -£36,098 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, a pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr Tom Nightingale (
[email protected]).
