The Vukotic Research Group (VRG) in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Windsor in collaboration with our industry sponsor (PROTO Mfg.) is seeking a highly motivated candidate to work in the areas of X-ray diffraction (XRD), crystallography, and the development of in-situ XRD devices.

    Position Description:
The candidate will have a leadership role in working between PROTO Mfg. and the University of Windsor on the development of X-ray diffraction instrumentation, crystallographic software, and the development of in-situ XRD devices and custom crystallization labware for high-throughput XRD analysis.

    Main responsibilities:
The candidate will work with PROTO’s skilled team of designers and engineers and provide valuable end-user feedback on instrumentation design, software development, as well as being actively involved in the testing and fabrication of in-situ XRD devices and custom crystallization labware. The candidate will also be responsible for setting up specialized experiments to monitor phase transformations of crystalline materials which occur within the developed in-situ XRD devices (ex. flow cells and high pressure gas cells).

    Qualifications:
Prospective candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in chemistry, materials science, physics, or related fields, extensive experience with crystallography, single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction (in a lab or synchrotron setting), experience with some kind of device fabrication and design, good interpersonal communication and presentation skills, and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, as they will be working closely with our industry partner, PROTO Mfg.

    Research Environment:
The candidate will gain both academic and industrial experience as they will be expected to work between the Advanced Materials Centre of Research (AMCORe) at the University of Windsor and PROTO’s facility which are ~15min drive apart - http://www.vukgroup.com/facilities.html.

The University of Windsor is a comprehensive research and teaching institution with more than 15,500 students. We are a welcoming community committed to equity and diversity in our teaching, learning, and work environments. PROTO Manufacturing Ltd. is a technology-driven, Canadian company based near Windsor, Ontario and is a global leader in the manufacturing of X-ray sources, detectors, and XRD instrumentation for residual stress, Laue, and powder diffraction.

All eligible candidates are encouraged to apply however only qualified candidates will be contacted. The initial appointment will be for one year with possible extension. The position is open to start as soon as possible. Salary $45,000 - $50,000 (CAD) depending on experience.
