Research Fellow x 2 - Deep Underground Neutrino experiment (DUNE)

The Elementary Particle Physics Group at the University of Warwick seeks to appoint two outstanding individuals to join its research programme, working on the Deep Underground Neutrino experiment (DUNE). The Warwick group has a leading role in the development of algorithms to reconstruct neutrino interactions in liquid-argon time-projection chambers. These new research fellowships have been created to help deliver fully-optimised reconstruction solutions for the DUNE experiment through the construction phase of the project.

Both research fellows will join the group led by Dr. John Marshall, and their work will involve the design and implementation of sophisticated pattern-recognition algorithms using the Pandora software package.

The focus of the two research fellows will be subtly different:
    • The first research fellow will design and implement algorithms to reconstruct the complex neutrino interaction topologies anticipated at DUNE, exploiting novel Pandora functionality.

    • The second research fellow will use machine learning, and the latest deep learning approaches, to drive key pattern-recognition decisions within the Pandora algorithms for DUNE.

The successful candidates will be expected to hold a PhD in particle physics, or another relevant discipline, and to possess the important computing and technical skills necessary to make significant contributions to our work in these projects.

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£29,515). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure (£30,395 pa).

The positions will be awarded for a three year duration in the first instance to start not before October 1st 2019.
