Postdoctoral Scientist (Computational Biologist) - Cell Biology - Mark Skehel - LMB 1105

    Postdoctoral Scientist – Cell Biology
    Starting Salary - £30,914 - £33,755 per annum
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK
    3 year fixed term position

The Biological Mass Spectrometry & Proteomics facility at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) seeks a bioinformatician/computational biologist to join their team. The lab aims to cover all aspects of protein mass spectrometry and is set up primarily to use a ‘bottom up’ peptide centric approach for protein identification, quantification (SILAC, isobaric labelling, label free) and the discovery, characterisation and quantification of post-translational modifications. In addition, the facility has a strong focus on structural proteomics, concentrating specifically on chemical cross-linking and hydrogen/deuterium exchange-mass spectrometry.

You will have a primary responsibility to implement bioinformatic/analytical computational pipelines, developing new approaches in support of scientists in both the Facility and LMB in the analysis of Localization of Organelle Proteins by Isotope Tagging (LOPIT) data sets.

Candidates should have a PhD or DPhil in a relevant subject and a background in bioinformatics, biology or computational science. An understanding of protein mass spectrometry and proteomics is also required.
The successful applicant will be awarded a three year Career Development Fellowship / Postdoctoral training Scheme position. This is a training and development position for a post-doctoral scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, is moving into a new research discipline or has limited experience of key transferable skills. The MRC LMB has excellent scientific core facilities and training opportunities.
