MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK
We are looking to recruit a computational biologist to work within the Group of Sean Munro at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) to predict the role of human genes of unknown function using bioinformatics and machine learning techniques.
The position will suit someone who can play a major role in developing methods to use phylogenetic, proteomic and genomic sources to predict gene/protein function using neural network based methods. This role will involve the development of software pipelines to: accumulate and pre-process training data; train and parameterise state-of-the-art deep neural networks; objectively asses the performance of predictions The position is supported by a collaboration agreement with the Alan Turing Institute and there will be opportunities for interactions with Turing researchers.
You will have PhD in a relevant biological, biochemical or computational subject and significant research experience in the use of large-scale biological data (e.g. genomic, proteomic, metabolic and/or phylogenetic) or in the application of machine learning. You will also have experience of computer programming using scripting or compiled languages in a UNIX/Linux environment.
Further information about the position may be obtained from Dr Sean Munro, email:
