Post-Doctoral Position in Electron-Beam Spectroscopy for Nanophotonics

ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated, and dynamic young scientists who wish to enhance her/his scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.

The successful candidate will be joining the Nanophotonics Theory Group led by Prof. Javier García de Abajo. The group has extensive theoretical experience in the fields of Nanophotonics, Electron Microscopy, and Quantum Physics, combining elements of Condensed-Matter Theory, Quantum Chemistry, Quantum Optics, Atomic Physics, and Advanced Electromagnetism to predict and explain fundamentally new physical phenomena. More information and full access to recent publications by the host group can be obtained as http://www.nanophotonics.es/ This project is part of the Advanced ERC Grant e-Nano held by the group leader.

    ELIGIBILITY AND CONDITIONS

Candidates must hold an internationally recognized PhD degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) based on theoretical work, preferably in the areas of Plasmonics, Nanophotonics, Electron Microscopy, Condensed-Matter Physics, Quantum Chemistry, Materials Science, or Atomic Collisions.

We seek a highly-motivated candidate with theoretical capabilities in the simulation of electromagnetic phenomena. Experience in the following areas will be highly valued: interaction of radiation with atoms/molecules, interaction of electron beams with nanomaterials, nonlinear optics, quantum optics, fluctuation phenomena, and/or numerical solution of Maxwell’s equations. The candidate should be familiarized with state-of-the-art techniques and codes to produce numerical solutions of the Maxwell equations. The project will heavily rely on such solutions, as well as their application to explore new phenomena associated with the interaction of electron beams with nanomaterials, as mediated by the electromagnetic field. Quantum aspects of such interaction will be also pursued.

The work to be carried out by the candidate will be part of a high-impact research project in the context of the abovementioned Advanced ERC Grant. Further details of the project will be discussed during an interview.

ICFO is an equal employment opportunity employer. Candidates are selected exclusively on merit and potential on the basis of submitted application material. No restrictions of persons with disabilities, citizenship or gender apply to ICFO positions. ICFO abides by the principles of openness, efficiency, transparency, supportiveness, and international comparability as stated in the European Charter for Researchers and the European Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.

The contract is offered for periods of one year, renewable for a total of up to 3 years.

    APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The formal application should be submitted online via http://jobs.icfo.eu/?detail=421.

Suitable candidates are requested to submit:
    - Presentation letter with a declaration of interest,
    - Curriculum Vitae, including contact details,
    - The contact e-mail of two potential referees.

Candidates may contact [email protected] for informal enquiries regarding the application, as well as address scientific enquiries to [email protected]

    DEADLINES

The call will remain open until May 15, 2019.
