Senior Power Systems Researcher, UCD School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Temporary 36 month appointment)

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Senior Power Systems Researcher within UCD School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

This position is part of a new project, led by UCD Energy Institute, with the support of funding from the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, called EMPowER. The Emissions and Fuel Mix, Markets and Costs, Power Flows and Networks, and End Use & Rates of Uptake (EMPowER) modelling framework combines policy and electricity demand modelling with power system and market modelling. The research marshals existing competencies across the disciplines of operations research, power systems engineering, mathematical sciences, economics and policy to apply comprehensive energy and emissions modelling to policy questions and respond to analytical needs as they arise.

The successful candidate will join a team of researchers within the UCD Energy Institute. They will lead the electricity market modelling pillar of the EMPowER project. The project aims to use both unit commitment modelling and game theory optimisation to model the Irish electricity market and will consider both least-cost and non-least cost dispatch modelling principles. The project will use the model to advance evidence-based policy recommendations on climate change mitigation and electricity policy in Ireland.
