The appointment will be on UCL Grade . The salary range will be Grade 7 - (£35,328 - £42,701 per annum) Grade 8 - (£43,884 - £45,128 per annum), inclusive of London Allowance.

A Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow is required to join Professor Thielemans’ laboratory in the UCL Institute of Nuclear Medicine (INM) to work on development of methods and algorithms for improving image quantification in dynamic PET/CT in the thorax. These studies are particularly challenging due to multiple factors influencing data quality, and in particular internal movement caused by respiration and patient movement. This project will address some of these challenges, concentrating on methods that do not need external motion monitoring equipment. The project builds on large experience at INM and UCL with data-driven techniques for motion detection and correction, image reconstruction, and quantification of dynamic PET data, both in the brain and for the lung.

The primary responsibility of the post-holder will be to develop, implement and evaluate novel algorithms for motion detection and correction in dynamic PET/CT and to facilitate clinical implementation of the novel technology.

We are a leading centre with access to state-of-the-art equipment, including 2 PET/CT, 1 PET/MR, 2 SPECT/CT and 2 SPECT scanners. Our research group currently consists of 6 PhD students, 3 postdocs and 2 tenured staff members. We have extensive collaborations within UCL, other academic centres and industry.

The post is funded for 2 years in the first instance.

You will have a PhD in medical physics, medical image analysis or related area including substantial elements of medical image processing. Familiarity with issues on quantification in medical imaging and PET/CT is desirable. Previous experience with motion detection, correction and image reconstruction will be highly beneficial. Demonstrated skill in computer programming is required (at least Python or MATLAB, but C++ desirable).
