Research Fellow in Software Applications & Systems



    Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to work with Professor Peter Coveney in the Department of Chemistry at University College London. The successful candidate will join a very active cross-disciplinary group in the Centre for Computational Science (CCS).

    The Research Fellow will work with members of the CCS and its collaborating partners to provide collaborative research, training and computing solutions. The postholder will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of ongoing research projects at CCS, specifically on developing and maintaining cutting-edge software infrastructure and improving the performance, usability and accuracy of a wide range of simulation and pre- and post-processing software. They will also be responsible for keeping the local compute, network and storage facilities in optimal condition and orchestrating sustained user support for its 20-30 members together with several local researchers.

    The post is funded by the European Commission and is available immediately, for a period of 18 months in the first instance.

    The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in a Physical Science, Engineering or Computer Science discipline and demonstrable ability to programme in more than one high-level language. The appointee must have extensive experience with programming and software engineering on scientific and technical software & codes, including e-infrastructure deployment, parallel programming, performance optimisation and scaling to large numbers of processors.

    Please note, appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B (salary £30,922 to £32,607 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
