Salary: £34,189 to £39,609 per annum - Grade 7
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship commencing as soon as possible to work on the Fluorescence Imaging for Nutrition and Disease (FIND) project at the University of Plymouth until March 2020. This Agri-tec Cornwall project is ERDF funded and will involve the development of an image-based early warning system for plant disease.
This role is funded through the Cornwall Agri-Tech project which is supported by an investment from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The Research Fellow will, in collaboration with the PI and Cornish businesses, drive the development of an image-based early warning system for plant disease in the context of food production in Cornwall as part of the Fluorescence Imaging for Nutrition and Disease (FIND) project.
Food security is one of the great global challenges of the 21st century. Development of technology to ensure safe, reliable and efficient food production will be key in rising to this challenge. Global crop losses caused by microbial pathogens can be as high as 25% or more. This project will develop an image-based system for routine monitoring of plant health and early diagnosis of disease in the context of Cornish Agriculture. The project will involve working closely with Cornish businesses.
You will work within the legal constraints of any agreed non-disclosure agreement (NDA’s) and Intellectual property (IP) protection agreed between Delivery Partners and collaborating businesses.

This is a full time position working 37 hours a week until March 2020 due to funding.
