Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Haemopoietic Stem Cell Niche Biology

    Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 per annum

Project: Study of human haemopoietic stem cells and their niche.

We are seeking a talented, motivated high-calibre Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join Professor Paresh Vyas’s laboratory (https://www.imm.ox.ac.uk/research/units-and-centres/mrc-molecular-haematology-unit/research-groups/vyas-group-normal-and-malignant-haematopoiesis-lab). This position will focus on purification of human haemopoietic stem cells, defining the cells that comprise the bone marrow niche, and to begin dissection of the two-directional signalling between these two cells populations.

Working as an individual and as part of a team, you will study flow-sorted normal human marrow samples and extensively study single cell populations. You will use state-of-the-art methods to characterise the molecular properties of these cells and function in vitro and in vivo (using gene editing approaches to generate novel humanised models). You will present to journal clubs and laboratory meetings. This position will allow you become expert in haemopoietic stem cell biology, niche biology and use of gene editing to develop new tools to study stem cell function.

You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline with a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Previous experience in molecular biology techniques such as CRISPR/Cas-9 mediated gene editing, Next Generation Sequencing, culturing primary cells (ideally haemopoietic cells) and working with in vivo murine models are essential. You will have the ability to work both as a team member and independently, with excellent organisational and communication skills.

The post is available fixed-term until 31 March 2021, funded by NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre,
