    Full-time up to 48 months (Temporary)

    We are seeking an enthusiastic and conscientious individual to join a research team to work on a NERC-funded project exploring the impact of the gut ecosystem (including both parasites and the microbiome) on immunity, survival and fitness of sheep.

    This project is part of a NERC LARGE grant (‘The ecology within: The impact of gut ecosystem dynamics on host fitness in the wild’) led by the University of Edinburgh and involves co-investigators from the University of Liverpool, University of Sheffield, Aberystwyth University and James Hutton Institute. The post-holder will work closely with the University of Edinburgh to facilitate collection and processing of samples from the St Kilda Soay sheep population over a four year period, and will be responsible for immunological and parasitological analyses of the samples including preparation of parasite DNA for next-generation sequencing.

    You will be hard working, with an interest in parasitology and immunology, along with experience in immunological (both cellular and antibody based) and parasitological assays. You will have experience in a leading role in the coordination and execution of sample collection and processing, to take responsibility for collation of data for use by the wider research team, and play an active role in disseminating the results of the project to both academic, industry and lay audiences.
