Project: Adhesion of Cells to Substrates is essential for all multi-cellular life. In this project, you will study the binding mechanics and the mechanical signaling of Integrin receptors in single molecule experiments using a combination of optical tweezers and fluorescence microscopy. The aim is to unravel the mechanisms of how mechanical forces are transmitted from the inside to the outside. This work is embedded in a highly interdisciplinary project between physicists and cell biologists funded by the ERC.
Requirements: A background in biophysics/biochemistry is required. Depending on your specific background the work will be more biochemical or physical. However, you should be willing to learn and adopt new methods and like work in an interdisciplinary environment.
