    We are looking for a Research Support Officer to provide technical assistance to help run, maintain, and develop the world-leading electron microscopy facility at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK. The facility hosts research programmes aimed at the development of new hardware and software for cryo-electron microscopy and has approximately 150 active users applying electron cryomicroscopy and cryo-electron tomography to study important biological problems. The facility includes ten electron microscopes and associated preparation equipment including three Titan Krios electron microscopes.

    Together with the other facility staff, the EM RSO will be responsible for day-to-day provision of the facilities services. The main duties include: taking joint responsibility for ensuring that electron microscopes and associated equipment run in a smooth manner, addressing and resolving hardware and software problems, assisting with upkeep and maintenance of electron microscope hardware and software; advising, supporting, and training users; contributing to the smooth running of the facility, and interacting with MRC-LMB scientists on research projects aimed at improving the performance, efficiency and usability of the electron microscopes through modification of software or hardware.

    The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in the operation of transmission electron microscopes. They will have either a PhD in a relevant subject or an equivalent level of experience or training in a relevant area. The candidate will be self-motivated, have excellent interpersonal skills, be passionate about electron microscopy, and will have the desire and ability to learn new techniques.
