New 5G wireless technologies aim for substantially broader coverage, with a special focus on supporting low-power Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices. One key technique underpinning the latest development of 5G-and-beyond standards is the use of multi-hop wireless connections. This project will design advanced strategies for wireless multi-hop communications, which substantially improve the delay-throughput performance of multi-hop links while significantly lowering the complexity.
Two postdoctoral researchers are sought for this project: one with specific expertise in channel coding and information theory, and one with specific expertise in signal processing for wireless communications. Research challenges for the proposed new multi-hop framework include the design of new channel coding techniques and signal processing algorithms, incorporation of wireless channel estimation, performance analysis over fading channels, and testbed implementation.
