Postdoctoral Research Assistant

A Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is available at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in Dr Fabrice Caudron’s group, to work on the role of prion-like proteins in cell fate and memory.

Queen Mary is one of the top research-led universities in the UK and was ranked 9th among the UK multi-faculty universities in the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014). All postdoctoral researchers are part of the QMUL Doctoral College, which provides support with high-quality training and career development activities.

This research position will focus the mechanisms of condensation and function of several prion-like proteins in response to pheromone and during yeast replicative ageing. This involves classical molecular biology and yeast genetics techniques in order to perform 3D time-lapse microscopy. In addition, you will establish the production and use of microfluidics chips to perform full lifespan imaging of yeast cell, in collaboration with other research groups. You will also start translating this research to zebrafish embryos.

The ideal candidate for the position will have a PhD in cell and molecular biology, with significant experience in yeast cell biology. A track record of peer-reviewed publications is essential. Experience in the production of microfluidic chips would be an asset.

The post is BBSRC funded and is a full-time position, available for a period of 3 years. The start date is 1st December 2018. The salary is £33,615 per annum and is inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and a pension scheme.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

Informal enquiries are welcomed, and may be made to Dr Fabrice Caudron via e-mail at [email protected]
