Applications are invited from highly motivated candidates to join the successful Sarcoma Molecular Team led by Professor Janet Shipley
The research aims to identify new treatments for sarcoma patients including RhabdoMyoSarcomas (RMS) and Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumours (DSRCT) based on identifying and understanding molecular vulnerabilities.
The successful applicant will have responsibility for running a pilot study on the feasibility and utility of assessing circulating tumour DNA from RMS patients as well as supporting preclinical validation studies of specific drug combinations. Applicants should have a strong background in genetics and molecular biology. The position is funded for one year in the first instance by an award from the Alice’s Arc Charity with additional support for reagents via the European Consortium ITCC (Innovative Therapies for Childhood Cancers) from the KickCancer charity. The appointment will be either on the PDTF or HSO scales as appropriate for 1 year in the first instance and dependent on the level of relevant experience offered.
The Institute of Cancer Research, London, is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes, with an outstanding record of achievement dating back more than 100 years. We provided the first convincing evidence that DNA damage is the basic cause of cancer, laying the foundation for the now universally accepted idea that cancer is a genetic disease. Today, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) leads the world at isolating cancer-related genes and discovering new targeted drugs for personalised cancer treatment.
Under the leadership of our Chief Executive, Professor Paul Workman FRS, the ICR is ranked as the UK’s leading academic research centre. Together with our partner The Royal Marsden, we are rated in the top four cancer centres globally.
The ICR is committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world to join us in our mission – to make the discoveries that defeat cancer.
