We are seeking applicants for a prestigious "Eyes High" Post Doctoral Fellowship (https://ucalgary.ca/research/eyes-high-postdoc) at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. Highly motivated candidates have the opportunity to join an ambitious team at the Calgary Prion Research Unit (https://vet.ucalgary.ca/calgary-prion-research-unit/) to work on a project entitled "Expanding the use of cellulose ethers for the treatment of prion and prion-like diseases". This project aims to investigate the underlying effect of cellulose ethers on prion and amyloid-propagation. The goal is to develop novel therapeutic strategies for prion and Alzheimer’s disease by using single or combination drug treatment in vitro and in vivo.
We offer the opportunity to independently develop a research project, to participate in undergraduate and graduate student supervision and training, to attend national and international conferences.
Required qualifications are a PhD in cell biology, biochemistry, neuroscience or a related field. Experience with cell culture and primary neuronal cultures and in particular in vitro, cell culture and mouse models of Alzheimer's disease or prion diseases would be an asset.
The position is funded for 2 years. Competitive applicants are expected to apply for external fellowships.
In addition to working in an inspiring research environment, the city of Calgary offers many recreational amenities from sports to cultural events. It is located closely to the Rocky Mountains and Banff National Park, providing a unique variety of hiking trails and skiing areas.
