      Prof Antal Rot

Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Experimental Pathology of ACKR1; 2 positions

The William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI; www.whri.qmul.ac.uk) is a dynamic academic institution, with 90% of its research judged world-leading and internationally excellent (REF2014). WHRI, in a strategic partnership with the multi-disciplinary Centre for Inflammation and Therapeutic Innovation (CiTI; www.qmul.ac.uk/citi/) at the Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), is at the vanguard of uncovering molecular and cellular disease pathomechanisms and exploring innovative strategies for their effective therapies.

Professor Antal Rot (http://www.qmul.ac.uk/whri/people/academic-staff/items/rotantal.html) is an internationally recognised pioneer investigator studying functions of chemokines and their receptors with particular focus on the mechanisms guiding their diverse pathophysiological roles. His group at the Centre of Microvascular Research, WHRI and CiTI uses modern tools of experimental pathology and immunology to uncover the multifaceted contributions of the atypical chemokine receptors to immunity and disease pathogenesis.

In this context, supported by the Wellcome Trust Investigator Award to Professor Antal Rot, we are seeking to recruit 2 postdoctoral researchers who will conduct ground-braking world-class research on the contribution of ACKR1 expression in the erythroid compartment of the bone marrow to the pathophysiology of haematopoiesis and downstream effects in infection, inflammatory diseases and cancer. This work is of particular relevance to the health of individuals of African ancestry who due to the hugely prevalent SNP in ACKR1 gene do not express this receptor in erythroid cells. https://www.nature.com/articles/ni.3763

The candidates should have relevant qualifications of PhD, MD, DVM or equivalent and have a strong track record of successful research as demonstrated by publications in renowned international journals.

Both posts is for the period of 36 months, initially, with the possibility to extend for further 24 months. Starting salary will be in the range of £32,956 to £38,709 per annum inclusive of London Allowance, based on the QMUL pay scale as corresponding to the experience of candidates.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

For further information, please contact Professor Antal Rot ([email protected]).
