to start work as soon as possible. The position initially involves a three-year fixed-term contract. An extension beyond this period is generally possible.

The Laboratory for Parallel Programming creates methods, tools, and algorithms that support the development and deployment of parallel software systems in various stages of their life cycle.

To satisfy the growing demand for computational power, supercomputers will be able to execute more than 10^18 floatingpoint operations per second already in the near future. However, using this enormous capability effectively requires balancing applications and systems in an optimal way. This process is supported by performance models that describe the behavior of an application as a function of various execution parameters, such as the number of cores and the size of the input problem. Because creating such models analytically is extremely laborious, our team has successfully developed methods that automatically derive accurate performance models from performance measurements.

The successful candidate will investigate how artificial intelligence can be applied to reduce the cost of the required measurements and to further improve the quality of the generated performance models. The results shall lead to practical tools.

    Position profile

    • Research and development in the area of performance-modeling tools for HPC applications using modern AI methods
    • Publication of results in journals
    • Presentations at international conferences
    • Collaboration with international partners

    Requirements

    • Very good master’s degree in computer science or related discipline
    • Solid programming skills in C/C++
    • Excellent command of written and spoken English (German is a plus)
    • Ability to work in a team and a high level of commitment
    • Experience in parallel computing and/or artificial intelligence is an advantage

Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.

The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt). Part-time employment is generally possible.

The application documents should include a cover letter mentioning the job ID listed at the bottom of this advertisement, a CV, transcripts (with translation unless the document is written in English or in German), and the names and contact details of at least two references. The cover letter is expected to motivate the applicant’s desire to work in this particular position. Please send your application documents as a single PDF to Prof. Dr. Felix Wolf, [email protected].
