Research Associate in Molecular Dynamics for Advanced Materials and/or Biomedicine

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,635 to £41,864 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work with Professor Peter Coveney in the Department of Chemistry at University College London. The successful candidate will join a very active inter-disciplinary group in the Centre for Computational Science, and will work on providing guiding theoretical principles and computational methods for the design of novel materials based on their atomic composition and structure.

The postholder will work within the VECMA project to develop and optimise verified and validated molecular dynamics simulation for advanced materials and drug discovery based on or around established molecular dynamics codes such as OpenMM, LAMMPS, NAMD and GROMACS and drawing on modern techniques for uncertainty quantification. The codes will be optimised for existing and future emerging architectures along the path to the exascale.

The post is funded by the European Commission and is available from 15 June 2018 or soon thereafter, for a period of 24 months initially.

The successful candidate will have a PhD degree (or near to being awarded a PhD) in Chemistry, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Biology or related areas, with a significant component of bio-molecular modelling and simulation and proven programming expertise, with extensive experience of biological molecular modelling and simulation, involving high performance computing. An excellent and consistent publication track record is also essential.

Please note, appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6 (salary £30,316 to £31,967 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
