A Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is available at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in Dr Lakxmi Subramanian’s group, to work on the molecular mechanisms that regulate centromere function and chromosome segregation.
Queen Mary is one of the top research-led universities in the UK, a member of the Russell group, and ranked 9th among the UK multi-faculty universities in the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014). All postdoctoral researchers are part of the QMUL Doctoral College, which provides support with high-quality training and career development activities.
The postholder will focus on dissecting the mechanisms by which the centromere-specific histone H3 variant CENP-A specifies centromeres in an evolutionarily conserved manner. The findings from the project will elucidate how the process of chromosome segregation, fundamental to all eukaryotes, is epigenetically regulated. The postholder will have the opportunity to learn and expand their skills in genome-wide and proteome-wide techniques, as well as high-resolution microscopy.
The postholder will ideally have a PhD in biochemistry, cell biology or molecular genetics, and have an interest/knowledge in chromosome biology and chromosome segregation. A track record of peer-reviewed publications is essential. Experience in cell and molecular biology techniques is also essential.
This is a BBSRC funded full-time position, available for an initial period of 1 year with a possibility of extension upon meeting project expectations and performance. The start date is as soon as possible. The starting salary is £32,956 per annum and is inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and a defined benefits pension scheme.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
