    The position
    Are you looking for an opportunity to carry out gene editing research for Duchenne muscular dystrophy? The Department of Cell and Chemical Biology is looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral fellow to work on a 2-year research project. As postdoc in the Department of Cell and Chemical Biology you will be part of a research team working in the field of gene editing. Your research project will involve investigating gene transfer and gene editing strategies for the correction of muscle progenitor cells from patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This research will include working with state-of-the-art viral vector systems, protein engineering and gene-modifying tools. You will be expected to supervise personnel in coordination with the other group members daily, as well as organize, communicate and publish the experimental findings.

    The profile
    You are an enthusiastic, driven colleague who:
    • has a PhD in Biomedical sciences, protein engineering, biochemistry or a similar field;
    • has experience in the field of molecular and cell biology;
    • has experience with protein modelling, expression, purification and characterization;
    • Preferably has experience with viral vector systems/gene editing technologies;
    • is proficient in written and spoken English.

    The offer
    You will be employed on the basis of a 36-hour work week. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility to be extended by one additional year, for the duration of the project. Your salary will depend on your qualifications and experience, with a maximum of € 4,216 gross per month based on a full time position (scale 10 of the Collective Labor Agreement for University Hospitals).

    The LUMC is a center for medical innovation that aims to improve patient care through leading international research. So as to also provide our patients with a safe and friendly environment, we need doctors, medical care specialists, support staff and academic researchers. Within the Department of Cell and Chemical Biology, the Virus & Stem Cell Biology section focuses on developing viruses and stem/progenitor cells into therapeutic agents for the treatment of human diseases. The section is further divided into sub-groups. This research project will be carried out in the Genome editing sub-group. All research in the department is performed in collaboration with groups within and outside the LUMC.
