The UCL Cancer Institute was established in 2007 and is the hub for cancer research at UCL. The Proteomics Research Core Facility (PRCF) is located within the Cancer Institute and is funded through the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) – UCL Centre. It provides basic and clinical researchers at the Cancer Institute and the Centre with state-of-the-art proteomic research.
The PRCF is managed by the Facility Head, Dr Silvia Surinova, and is overseen by Prof. Henning Walczak and Prof. Bart Vanhaesebroeck. The post holder will be responsible for managing a variety of high-paced, collaborative projects involving optimal experimental design and data collection, the analysis of protein-protein interaction, protein abundance and protein post translational modification data to draw system level conclusions and prioritise leads for follow up experiments; and for developing and managing the required computational infrastructure for processing and storing data.
The post is initially funded until 31st March 2022.
The successful applicant must have a PhD (or be studying towards a PhD) in Bioinformatics or Biostatistics, or a relevant discipline, a degree in statistics or a relevant discipline. The post holder will have a substantial experience with statistical programming in R and statistical analysis of large quantitative datasets. The ability to prepare, clear and concise training materials, protocols, reports, and policy documents is essential, as is ability to train users in experimental design and data analysis.
Knowledge of scripting and programming languages such as Perl, Python or C++ in a Linux environment would be desirable.
Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if it is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £30,316-£31,967 per annum, including London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
