The MRC-LMCB is inviting applications for a postdoctoral researcher (Research Associate) to join the Baum lab as part of an international Wellcome consortium studying the evolution of eukaryotic cytoskeletal systems that have their origins in archaea.
The successful candidate will use Sulfolobus as a model study the evolution of eukaryotic cell structure.
They will be expected to:
i) do original research in the study of cell shape and growth control in archaea, individually and in collaboration with other members of the team,
ii) help to publish the results of this research,
iii) communicate the results of this original research to the wider community in meetings and conferences.
The post is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is available for three years in the first instance.
Key Requirements
Applicants should have a BSc in a relevant field and a PhD in microbiology, and should have experience working with extremophiles. Experience in molecular genetics, live cell imaging, microfabrication will be necessary, while cell growth/division, drug/genetic screening approaches would be advantageous.
